The inclusion of women in carved gem art jewelry is one of my innovations from the Art Nouveau style. For centuries the female body had been excluded from the design vocabulary of gem art carving even though many of the Art Nouveau themes addressed a potential obsession with the female. It was considered bad taste for a lady to wear the naked image of another woman.
